Canada Greener Homes Loan
The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers up to $40,000 in interest-free financing, repayable over 10 years. It can be used to cover the cost of energy-efficient upgrades such as heat pumps, insulation, windows, doors, and solar panels.

The Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program provides grants of up to $10,000 plus a $250 bonus in some areas. It’s designed for low- to middle-income households making the switch from oil heating to an eligible electric heat pump.

Who is eligible for HVAC grants or loans in Ontario?
Most programs are open to Canadian homeowners who use their property as a primary residence. Income thresholds may apply for certain programs like the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program. For the Greener Homes Loan, a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation is required before any work begins.
Are grants still available in Ontario?
The Canada Greener Homes Grant (up to $5,000) is no longer open to new applicants. However, existing applicants can still access funds through the Enbridge HER+ program or Canada Greener Homes portal. New applicants may still be eligible for the Greener Homes Loan and Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program.
What’s the difference between the grant and the loan?
The Greener Homes Grant is non-repayable funding for qualifying retrofits (now closed to new applicants). The Greener Homes Loan is an interest-free loan of up to $40,000 to help finance energy-efficient upgrades—repayable over 10 years.
Can I get both the loan and the rebate?
Yes, if you’re an existing grant applicant, you may combine the Greener Homes Loan with your eligible retrofits. However, the grant must be applied for first (when it was open), followed by the loan application.
What’s the difference between the grant and the loan?
Eligible projects include heat pump systems, insulation, air sealing, high-efficiency windows and doors, solar panels, and resiliency improvements like waterproofing or roof membranes.
